“I’m a country fan now. My friends from New York are like, ‘What the fuck are you listening to?’ And I’m like, ‘It’s Miranda Lambert! You need to get into it, people!'”

— Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, explaining to Entertainment Weekly how she prepared for her role in the upcoming film Country Strong (due December 22), in which — shades of Crazy Heart? — Paltrow portrays a down-on-her-luck Nashville songbird looking for lightning to strike twice.

A few points of interest here. First of all, the movie premise is unrealistic since a washed-up 40-something female singer would never bother to attempt a comeback because “country music” hates women of a certain age (except you, Miss Reba). 🙂

Second, I was cast as an extra in this film, so look for my big-screen debut this December.

And third, Lambert is a good starting point for any new listener to the genre. She has that rock edge to her that makes her “cool” with the hip, urban crowd. I love her to death, as I’ve noted before. Her birthday—November 10—is the same day as the CMA Awards, and I expect it’ll be a special evening for her.

That’s only the half of it, but I’ll share the rest later.
